Erin Retter - 17/02/04
Date: 2 March 2004. 0900 - 1530
Present: Dr Margaret Sage, Dr Hazel Lewis, Jane McEntee, Ginny Hinton, Carol Green, Erin Retter, Dr Harold Neal and Diane Casey
The options for structuring the coordination and development of ongoing training in gynaecological cytology were considered, with consideration of feedback from the sector. It was decided to proceed with an option that incorporates Options 2 (Training School approach) and 3 (Committee approach). The proposal put forward would use one pathologist and one senior scientist with dedicated tenths. The pathologist and scientist would work as a partnership (with administerial assistance) to provide focused leadership in gynaecology cytology training in New Zealand (NZ).
There would also be a wider advisory/steering committee of representatives from all components of the sector who would meet, two or three times a year, to ensure that the training planned and delivered was fully responsive to the needs of the sector. Trainers from different regions of NZ would be contracted to carry out specific training as required.
The NSU is reviewing the costs and feasibility of this approach before proceeding further. Thank you to those who responded to the Training Options paper.
Feedback on the logbook was discussed. Thank you to those who have provided feedback on test sets, mastery required and content. A small editorial team will review the workbook.
