Keynote Speaker Announced

Matthew A. Zarka, M.D., Director of Cytopathology, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, at the Mayo Clinic Arizona will be our main speaker at this years conference in Dunedin.

Dr Zarka will give 4 presentations:

  • Non-gynae: FNA in Evaluation of a Cervical Neck Mass with Emphasis on Salivary Gland and Lymphoid Lesions.
  • Part 1 - Salivary Gland
  • Part 2 - Lymphoid Lesions
  • Gynae - TBA

Please also take this announcement as a call for proffered papers and for two gynae and two non-gynae cases exchange presentations for the workshop. We look forward to another great meeting!

CTIAC Examinations 2008

Karin Bradshaw has announced that there may be an opportunity for candidates to sit the CTAIC examinations in NZ this year at the NZSC/NZIMLS Conference.

Tentative date 26 August 2008 but details to be confirmed by the NZIMLS organising committee. Potential candidates should contact Karin [Karin.Bradshaw@sclabs.co.nz] to express their interest and to ensure they are updated with latest details.

The 22nd European Congress of Pathology, will be held in Florence, Italy from 4 to 9 September 2009. The estimated attendance is 3000 participants and all preliminary information can be found on the website www.ecp2009.org.

New National Screening Unit website launched

NSU say that:
"the site has been developed for consumers and participants in screening programmes, with a separate section for health professionals. There is also information about other areas of screening such as antenatal screening for Down syndrome and colorectal cancer screening.

Development of the new site represents completion of the first stage of what will be an ongoing project to review and update the NSU's web presence as a means of communicating with the public, participants in screening programmes and our stakeholders"

IAC Exam Comes to Auckland

2007 is set to be an interesting year for Medical Laboratory Science in NZ. This year the South Pacific Congress comes to Auckland under the theme “Stairway to Science”. The conference is being organised jointly by the NZIMLS and the NZSC and will be held from 21 -24 August. For details see the NZIMLS website.

It is planned to hold the International Academy of Cytology CTIAC Registration examinations at that time. The exam has been be scheduled for the afternoon before the conference starts but it's possible that this may change. Candidates should contact Karin Bradshaw (SCL) [Karin.Bradshaw@sclabs.co.nz] to express their interest and to ensure they are updated with latest details.

Life Memberships For Carol and Gwenda
