Dear Colleagues

I am writing to let you know that we are about to start a project on the
review of the 1999 Guideline for the Management of Women with Abnormal
Cervical Smears. We are working with the NZ Guidelines Group who will be
carrying out the literature review and development of evidence tables.
Gary Fentimen, a gynaecologist based in Dunedin, will be leading this work
on behalf of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians
and Gynaecologists.

At this, the beginning stage of the process, we are contacting you to ask
if there are any specific issues or questions you would like to raise
about the management of women with abnormal smears that we should include
as part of this review. At a later stage, we will send out draft
documents for comment.

We will be forming a multidisciplinary expert group to review the evidence
and draft the guideline and expect to complete the revised guideline by
the end of this year at the latest. I will keep you informed of progress.

The NCSP would like to make this revision process as inclusive as is
practically possible. We are happy for you to include a piece about this
work in any newsletter you may be distributing.

Please feel free to send me any specific questions you have about the

current guideline or any recent review/study you feel the group
should
consider as part of this process. The first meeting to discuss these
will
be held early in April.

Many thanks.

Hazel
